A game launcher for Windows and macOS

Your games. One launcher.

Bring the games on your drives into one library, find something to play and pick up where you left off. Typhon helps with downloads, installation and updates.

  • 01

    Your collection together

Find games on your drives and launch them from one library with covers and playtime tracking.

  • 02

    Downloads

Queue your downloads and set a speed limit to leave bandwidth for everything else.

  • 03

    Installation

After downloading, Typhon checks the files, unpacks the archive and starts the installer.

  • 04

    Find your next game

Covers, descriptions and screenshots help you rediscover games you have been meaning to play.

  • 05

    Account and friends

Optional: a profile, friends, an online status and sync between computers. Everything else works as a guest.

  • 06

    Move to another drive

Make room on your drive: move your library through Typhon with file verification.

  • 07

    Local network

An installed game can be handed to another computer on the same network instead of downloading it again.

  • 08

    Launcher updates

Typhon offers new launcher versions automatically. Interrupted update downloads resume when your connection returns.

The library builds itself

Typhon scans your drives and finds installed games; anything installed through it lands in the library straight away. Every game shows its version, size, install date and playtime.

  • Library, All games and Installed sections
  • Search and sort by title, size and last launch
  • Remove a game from the library without deleting the files

Updates, launching and removal

When a source publishes a release newer than the one you have, the game is flagged in the list. From there you can update, launch or remove it without leaving the section.

  • Update and New release badges next to a game
  • Pick the executable and open the game folder
  • Remove the files too, or only the library entry

Remember why you wanted to play it

Typhon looks the title up and fills in the cover, description, release date, genres, developer, publisher and screenshots. Everything it downloads stays in a local cache and opens without a connection.

Typhon verifies the files, unpacks the archive and runs the installer.

  4. Play

Launch from the library; playtime is counted for you.

What stays on your computer and what leaves it

Local

Your library, sources, downloads and installations are stored on your computer. Magnet links, infohashes, file lists and download history are never sent to Typhon services.

Outbound

The game title goes to the Typhon metadata service, which looks the entry up in IGDB. Typhon fetches a source feed directly from the host you gave, bypassing its own servers. While downloading over BitTorrent, your IP address is visible to other peers in the swarm. Every 30 seconds an anonymous signal reports whether the launcher is running and whether a game is open, carrying a random session id - no account token, no history, and it can be turned off in the settings. Usage statistics and error reports are sent only if you agree to them.

Account

Optional. As a guest you still get the library, downloads, installation, launching and the covers and descriptions. Signing in adds a profile, friends, an online status, an activity feed and sync of your library and settings between computers.

Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

Settings, library, sources, downloads, installations, the metadata cache and the log live in %APPDATA%\Typhon. The games themselves stay wherever you installed them. Delete that folder and this local data is gone.

What happens if Typhon services are unavailable?

The library, downloads, installation and launching do not depend on them and keep working. Signing in and fetching new metadata will not work; covers and descriptions you already have come from the local cache.

Which systems does Typhon support?

Windows 10 version 1809 or newer, 64-bit. There is a build for Apple Silicon Macs: it runs Windows games through CrossOver, which is a separate paid program. There is no Linux build, and we are not naming a date.

What does Typhon send about itself?

Three separate things. Every 30 seconds an anonymous signal reports whether the launcher is running and whether a game is open: a random session id, the app version, the OS and the architecture. It carries no account token, the record lives on the server for about 90 seconds, no "who was online when" history is kept, and the "Launcher online status" switch turns it off. The installation id and the catalogue id of the game are added to it only while usage statistics are on. Anonymous usage statistics and anonymous error reports are two separate switches: the app asks about them once on first run and sends nothing until you answer, with neither of them checked in that prompt. All three switches are in Settings under Privacy, where a "Show what was sent" button opens exactly what went to the server.

How do sources work?

Typhon ships with no sources: you add the feed address yourself. Typhon requests the feed directly from that host, and keeps no source directory of its own, published or otherwise.
