Typhon Terms of Use

Revision of 11 October 2026

This document sets out the terms of use of the Typhon launcher (the "app") and of the related server services: the account, metadata and update services (the "Typhon services").

This is a translation of the Russian original. In case of any discrepancy, the Russian text prevails.

1. The parties

There are two parties.

The user is the person who downloads, installs or uses the app, or who accesses the Typhon services.

The Typhon project operator is the independent developer who builds and maintains the app, the typhon-launcher.com website and the Typhon services. The project has no separate legal entity.

The terms are accepted explicitly: during installation and on first launch the app shows a summary of them and an "I Agree" button, and does not run until it is pressed. If the revision changes, the app shows them again. When registering on the website, the Terms of Use are accepted with a checkbox, with which the user also confirms having read the Privacy Policy. The accepted revision and the time of acceptance — on the website and, for a signed-in user, in the app — are stored in the account on the server. Using the website and the Typhon services also means accepting these terms. A user who does not agree does not use them.

2. What Typhon is

Typhon is a software tool that runs on the user's device and helps manage a personal game library: find games that are already installed, download files, install and remove them, and track updates.

Typhon is not a store, a content catalog or a game distribution platform. The operator neither hosts nor supplies game files, and does not provide access to them.

The app is free software. Its source code is published in the github.com/10kkyvl/Typhon-Launcher repository and is distributed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 (the LICENSE file in the repository). That license governs how the app may be copied, modified and distributed; these terms govern the use of the Typhon services and do not restrict any rights the license grants. The license grants no rights to the Typhon name or logo: a modified version must carry a different name.

3. Sources

Release sources are added by the user, at the user's own choice and on the user's own responsibility. The app ships with no preinstalled sources, and the operator neither maintains nor publishes a catalog of them.

The operator does not own, host, vet or endorse the contents of third-party sources. The app processes source data technically — it parses the feed and passes links to the downloader — and does not assess whether the contents are lawful.

The user must hold the rights required to access, download, store and distribute the materials, and is responsible for the choice of sources and for the use made of whatever is obtained through them.

4. Data transfer on the BitTorrent network

Downloading over BitTorrent is two-way by nature: the client does not only receive data, it may also pass it on to other peers. That is, while BitTorrent is in use the user's device may transfer parts of the files being downloaded to other participants.

The app provides separate controls for this in its settings: "Upload while downloading" and "Seed after download". Both are off by default. The user is responsible for whatever materials they pass on to other peers.

While BitTorrent is running, the user's IP address is visible to trackers, DHT nodes and other peers in the swarm. That is a property of the protocol, not a feature of Typhon. The operator takes no part in the operation of that network and has no influence over it.

5. Account and Typhon services

The app works without an account. The library, source search, downloading, installing, launching games and retrieving game metadata require no account.

An account is needed for the profile: username, display name, email address and avatar. This data is processed by the Typhon services; what it consists of is described in Privacy policy.

The account's email address is used for emails the account cannot work without: confirming the address, resetting the password, and notifications about support replies. There are no mailing lists and no product emails. Emails are sent through a third-party mail service, including to servers outside the user's country; the details are in Privacy policy.

You can write to support from the app and from the website, from an account or without one by confirming an email address. A request is voluntary and its content is the user's responsibility: do not send passwords, sign-in or password-reset links from emails, payment details, other people's personal data, or material that may not be shared under the law or because of third-party rights. The text of a request and any attached log are visible to the support staff and the project administrator. The operator does not guarantee a response time. A request is closed by the user or the operator; a request that support has answered and the user has not replied to for 14 days is closed automatically, and a closed request is deleted together with its conversation after 365 days. The operator may close a request that has nothing to do with Typhon or that breaks these terms. The number of requests open at the same time is limited. A reply from the user in a closed request reopens it.

The user is responsible for keeping their password safe and for actions taken under their account. An account may be restricted or terminated in the event of a breach of these terms, or of actions aimed at disrupting the services.

By uploading an avatar the user confirms that they are entitled to use it. An avatar that infringes third-party rights or the law may be removed.

6. Third-party services

Game metadata is provided by IGDB. Images are loaded by the app directly from the IGDB content delivery network. Discord status display, if the user has enabled it, works through the Discord client.

These services have their own terms and policies, which apply to the user independently of this document. The operator does not control their operation, availability or content, and is not responsible for them.

Typhon is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by IGDB, Twitch or Discord.

7. Restrictions

The app and the Typhon services may not be used for anything that breaks applicable law or infringes third-party rights, nor for attempts to disrupt the Typhon services or to gain unauthorized access to them.

8. Warranties and liability

The app is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator gives no warranty that the app is fit for any particular purpose, that it works without error, or that the services are available without interruption.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for the contents of third-party sources, for materials obtained by the user through the app, or for the consequences of using them.

This section neither excludes nor limits liability in cases where such exclusion or limitation is not permitted by applicable law.

9. Availability and changes to the services

The app is under development. Individual server-side features may change, be suspended or be discontinued; the services may be unavailable because of maintenance or failures.

The local part does not depend on this: the library, downloads, installation and launching of games work without access to the Typhon services.

10. Governing law and dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the law of Ukraine. Mandatory provisions of the law of the user's country of residence apply to the extent that they cannot be limited or excluded by these Terms.

Before going to court, the parties will where possible try to settle the dispute by correspondence at the operator's contact address. If no agreement is reached, the dispute is resolved in the manner provided by applicable law.

11. Changes to the terms

These terms may change. The revision date is stated at the top of the document. The current revision ships with the app and is available under "Settings → About", and is also published on the website.

12. Contacting the operator
