How to move a game to another drive in Typhon

You do not have to uninstall a game and download it again to free up space or put it on a faster SSD: Typhon moves the folder itself and updates the paths in your library.

Move a single game

Right-click the game in Library or Installed and choose Move to another drive. In the catalog, the same menu opens from the More button on the card of a game in your library. The item is hidden while the game is running.

The Move game window shows where the game is installed now and how much space it takes. Click Browse and pick an empty folder on the target drive: it becomes the game’s new folder itself, no subfolder is created inside it. A drive root cannot be picked. The free space on that drive is shown below the folder. Then click Move.

What happens during the move

If the new folder is on the same drive, Typhon just renames the game folder, which takes seconds.

To another drive, the files are first copied next to the new folder, then verified by hash, and only after that is the source folder deleted. Until verification passes, the old files stay where they were. Progress goes through stages: preparing, copying, verifying, finishing, repointing and cleaning up.

You can close the window and minimize the launcher: the move keeps going, and when it ends a notification says "Game title" moved. Cancel move during copying or verifying removes the partial copy and leaves the game where it was.

What changes after the move

In your library, Typhon updates the game folder and the executable path, and the cover if it was stored inside the game folder. If the game had a desktop shortcut, Typhon creates it again: the shortcut starts the game through Typhon and takes its icon from the new location.

Saves stored inside the game folder move with it. Typhon does not touch saves in Documents or AppData: games usually look for them at the same path as before. Launch the game once after the move to make sure everything is in place.

Move the whole library

To move everything at once, open Settings → General and click Move library in the Library move row. Pick a folder on the target drive: Typhon creates TyphonLibrary in it and moves all installed games, downloads and screenshots there, keeping their layout. The library move does not start while any download is in progress or a game is running.

Cancelling stops the game being moved right now and deletes its partial copy. Games already moved stay in the new place, and the library folder in Settings does not change. To finish, start the move again: games already moved are skipped.

This is not the same as changing the folder: the Edit button on the Library folder row only sets where new games go, and installed games stay where they are.

If the move does not start

  • "The game is running" — close the game and try again.
  • "The game is currently downloading", "…being installed" or "…being updated" — wait for it to finish.
  • "A previous version is kept for rollback" — after an update the launcher keeps a copy to roll back to. Roll back or wait until the copy is removed according to its retention setting.
  • "The target folder is not empty" — create a new empty folder.
  • "Not enough disk space" — you need room for the whole game plus a small margin. Typhon checks this even for a move within one drive.
  • "Verification of moved files failed" — the files stayed in their original location. Check the target drive and try again.

If the move was interrupted

If the computer turned off or the launcher closed in the middle of a move, Typhon checks at the next start where it stopped. It deletes a partial copy and the game stays where it was; if the files had already reached the new place, it finishes the move. Either way you see a message with the result. After a failed library move, start it again: it continues with the remaining games.

If you see "The move was interrupted and needs manual review", do not delete anything and write to Support.
